WEDDINGS

Do we need a marriage licence?

No, but you must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage at least a month before your wedding (go to legal marriage documents).

What will our ceremony be like? Can we have what we want?
Yes, you can have whatever you want but there are also a few compulsory legal elements that must be included (go to your ceremony).

Who is responsible for what? The celebrant? The couple?
You and I each have some legal obligations to meet (go to what you and I need to do).

What documents do we, the couple, need to provide?
You will need to provide proof of your identity, your age and that you are legally free to marry (go to legal marriage documents).

What services do you, the celebrant, provide?
I ensure that your marriage is legally valid and that your ceremony is conducted in accordance with your wishes (go to what you can expect from me).

What do your services cost?
I provide a professional service at a competitive price. I set a standard fee of $500; additional services (e.g. rehearsal, travel further than 80 km, or special inclusions) will incur additional costs (go to My services & fees).

Do we have to do a pre-marriage course?
No, but it is recommended and I am legally required to provide advice about available services (go to your relationship).

Do you marry gay or lesbian couples (same-sex marriage)?
I am a registered civil partnership notary in Queensland and am delighted to conduct civil partnership declaration ceremonies in accordance with Qld law. I also conduct commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples; however Australian law does not yet permit same-sex marriage (go to Other partnership ceremonies).

Can we have a ceremony even though we don’t want to be legally married?
Yes, I am happy to conduct a commitment ceremony for you; you might also want to choose a civil partnership declaration ceremony (in Qld only) (go to Other partnership ceremonies).
